During the middle of March, 1917, 14th London of 168 Brigade, 56th Division, were behind the lines at Gouy-en-Artois and Ivergny, undergoing training. On 27th March they moved to Agny in the Arras sector where they were temporarily attached to 169 Brigade who were holding the line there. At 6pm on the next day, 28th March, Agny was shelled and the building in which A Company were billeted was hit causing nearly fifty casualties ten of whom were killed. One of those who lost his life was Walter Bull.
